No takers for city’s international diplomatic enclave in Airoli

No takers for city’s international diplomatic enclave in Airoli

The City and Industrial Development Corporation’s (Cidco) plans to set up an International Diplomatic Enclave (IDE) at sector 10 in Airoli is getting a lukewarm response from several countries, who have expressed an interest in setting up consulates in the enclave, but have not yet given any confirmation.
The project proposes to serve as gateway for many countries across the globe, to engage in mutually beneficial collaborations with the Indian citizens. The enclave will have a good infrastructure, securities and communication facilities so that the consulates serve people better.
“The work at the site is progressing well and we are inviting consulates from different nations to visit the site and have a look at the facilities on offer, so that they can set their offices in the satellite city, on the lines of Chanakya Puri in New Delhi. Representatives from nearly 40 countries have visited the site, but we are yet to receive any feedback from them,” Cidco public relations officer, Mohan Ninawe said.
The location of the IDE is close to the international airports. Strategically located in the heart of the MMR, it will serve a population of over 18 million. Though well-connected by rail and road network, construction of helipads at the Enclave has been proposed for speedy access.
The project, spread over 27.3 sq hectares has the eco-preserve area to the west and an arterial road is proposed on its east. The project also has a scenic waterfront along 80 % of its perimeter with only the northern edge connected to the mainland. The IDE is also accessible from the Eastern Express Highway and the Thane-Belapur Road, connecting the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The facilities within the Enclave include international school, auditoriums, exhibition spaces, health club, restaurants and housing complex.

Open nullah transformed into multi-crore real estate Shops, parking lot stand where filth of city flowed till a few months ago

Open nullah transformed into multi-crore real estate
Shops, parking lot stand where filth of city flowed till a few months ago
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is all set to turn the nullah at Vashi’s sector 16A into a prime real estate property worth crores of rupees.
According to real estate experts, the market value of a commercial property in Vashi is around Rs30,000 per sq ft. “The civic body has constructed 30 kiosks at the spot. The authorities will take a decision later to either sell or rent the shops to florists, newspaper vendors, among others,” said Vikram Shinde, NCP corporator from this ward.
“I feel the NMMC must give these kiosks on lease to locals and preference should be given to physically-challenged persons and ex-servicemen,” Shinde added. The work at this parking lot has entered the last stage and will be completed in a month’s time.
Besides shops, this land will be utilised as a parking lot too. The civic body had planned to develop an open parking facility by covering a nullah that runs parallel to a road connecting Shivaji Chowk to the busy Palm Beach Road near Arenja Corner. The parking lot will accommodate 225 four-wheelers and around 200 two-wheelers. To accommodate an integrated drainage system, the NMMC widened and covered the nullah that was constructed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation nearly 35 years ago.
Meanwhile, residents have welcomed the move. “Being a commercial hub, sector 17 has heavy traffic flow everyday. NMMC’s decision is welcome,” says Vashi resident Ameya C.
A sector 16A resident Nitish Anand said, “After the NMMC began covering the nullah, the mosquito menace diminished drastically and so has the foul smell emanating from the place. The entire place has got a facelift.”
Another resident has requested the NMMC to provide proper security at the proposed facility given the history of car break-ins in the area.

Currey Road flyover shut for monorail work

‘Bridge may be shut till work is over’

MUMBAI: The Currey Road bridge has been closed for vehicles, beginning Saturday afternoon, for work on the the monorail.
The Currey Road flyover was closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday to facilitate the monorail work from Bharatmata Theatre junction, Parel (East), to Lower Parel station. Officials said the flyover might remain closed till the monorail work is over. However, they would look for other alternatives if too many traffic snarls are reported due to diversions, officials added.
On Saturday afternoon, the Mahadev Palav Marg was closed for vehicular traffic around 1.30pm between Bharatmata Junction and Shinte Master Chowk. The traffic was diverted from Ganacharya chowk to Arthur road naka junction, officials said.
“As it is a weekend, no traffic snarls were reported as there were fewer vehicles on the road. We will see how the arrangement works on Monday and if it does not lead to much inconvenience, the arrangement will continue to be in place till the monorail work culminates,” said an official from the Worli traffic outpost.

Koan Sound’s music is dark, comprising twisted basslines and a clean, tech-house kind of production quality

In your bass

Koan Sound’s music is dark, comprising twisted basslines and a clean, tech-house kind of production quality. It is, therefore, a little amusing that the four-year-old dubstep duo from Bristol, England, decided to name their act after a Buddhist philosophy they learned in school. “A ‘Koan’ is essentially a question used in Buddhism — often as a means of meditation — that cannot be answered through logic or a rational answer, such as ‘What is the sound of one hand clapping?’” says Jim Bastow, 21, one half of the duo. “The solution to the riddle can only be solved through enlightenment or awakening.”
For Bastow and William Weeks, 20, the enlightenment lies in their highly accomplished and evolving sound, which has earned them accolades and the respect of their superstar peers. This includes the likes of Aphex Twin, Pendulum, Rusko as well as Skrillex, who was so impressed by their chops that he signed them on to his label OWSLA last year.
Bastow says growing up in Bristol, famous for its underground music scene, had a big influence on them. The two of them grew up listening to rock and metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, System Of A Down and Incubus. However, Bristol’s diverse musical environment, best known for producing trip-hop and electronic pioneers such as Portishead and Massive Attack, eventually pushed them towards electronic music and early dubstep artists such as Skream. “We probably would have never found out about these genres if it wasn’t for the city we grew up in,” he says.
