Currey Road flyover shut for monorail work

‘Bridge may be shut till work is over’

MUMBAI: The Currey Road bridge has been closed for vehicles, beginning Saturday afternoon, for work on the the monorail.
The Currey Road flyover was closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday to facilitate the monorail work from Bharatmata Theatre junction, Parel (East), to Lower Parel station. Officials said the flyover might remain closed till the monorail work is over. However, they would look for other alternatives if too many traffic snarls are reported due to diversions, officials added.
On Saturday afternoon, the Mahadev Palav Marg was closed for vehicular traffic around 1.30pm between Bharatmata Junction and Shinte Master Chowk. The traffic was diverted from Ganacharya chowk to Arthur road naka junction, officials said.
“As it is a weekend, no traffic snarls were reported as there were fewer vehicles on the road. We will see how the arrangement works on Monday and if it does not lead to much inconvenience, the arrangement will continue to be in place till the monorail work culminates,” said an official from the Worli traffic outpost.

Koan Sound’s music is dark, comprising twisted basslines and a clean, tech-house kind of production quality

In your bass

Koan Sound’s music is dark, comprising twisted basslines and a clean, tech-house kind of production quality. It is, therefore, a little amusing that the four-year-old dubstep duo from Bristol, England, decided to name their act after a Buddhist philosophy they learned in school. “A ‘Koan’ is essentially a question used in Buddhism — often as a means of meditation — that cannot be answered through logic or a rational answer, such as ‘What is the sound of one hand clapping?’” says Jim Bastow, 21, one half of the duo. “The solution to the riddle can only be solved through enlightenment or awakening.”
For Bastow and William Weeks, 20, the enlightenment lies in their highly accomplished and evolving sound, which has earned them accolades and the respect of their superstar peers. This includes the likes of Aphex Twin, Pendulum, Rusko as well as Skrillex, who was so impressed by their chops that he signed them on to his label OWSLA last year.
Bastow says growing up in Bristol, famous for its underground music scene, had a big influence on them. The two of them grew up listening to rock and metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, System Of A Down and Incubus. However, Bristol’s diverse musical environment, best known for producing trip-hop and electronic pioneers such as Portishead and Massive Attack, eventually pushed them towards electronic music and early dubstep artists such as Skream. “We probably would have never found out about these genres if it wasn’t for the city we grew up in,” he says.

Hardwell, now 24, is ranked the sixth best DJ in the world

Ready for take-off

I n the world of electronic dance music, it is not unusual to see DJ-producers starting their careers early and making waves by the time they are 18 or 19 years of age, given the relative ease with which electronic music can be produced. However, even by those standards, the enviable career of Dutch DJ-producer Robbert van de Corput, better known to EDM fans as Hardwell, is impressive. Having been producing since the age of 12, Hardwell signed his first record deal at 14 and was soon playing all over the Netherlands. In 2009, his hit single ‘Show Me Love Vs Be’ catapulted him to worldwide fame.
Hardwell, now 24, is ranked the sixth best DJ in the world, according to influential British publication DJ Mag’s Top 100 ranking. Speaking about his first gig in the city, he says, “I’m really excited to be playing here and I’ve got loads of new mashups and new music for you guys.” He adds that he may play a special edit of his hit single ‘Apollo’, currently number one on online electronic music store Beatport.
The venue for the Hardwell gig is unusual. Crossbar Entertainment and P3P, the organisers of the show, have constructed a 20,000 sq ft structure at a lawn in Juhu, specially for this show. They’re calling it ‘The Hangar’. “The venue is air-conditioned, sound-proof and can accommodate up to 3,000 people,” says Fahad Chowdhary, operations manager, Crossbar Entertainment. “This is something that has never been done before in the city.”

Atul Kulkarni to host medical show!

Atul Kulkarni to host medical show!

What is the theme of the show?
‘Second Opinion’ – a new show on ABP News will feature path breaking cases of medical negligence. The show revolves around the judgment of such landmark cases of medical negligence, which made a substantial mark in the Indian medical history.

Please elaborate.
“Prevention is better than cure” is a saying which has been passed down the ages seems to be coming alive clearly through this program as it focuses in cases of medical negligence and offers advice that could have helped saved the lives of the victims in the episodes. Even the smallest mistake by a doctor can have life-altering (even life-ending) effects on his or her patients. Medical negligence can take place in any medical situation, from a visit to the dentist, an emergency room situation, a regular health check up, or a high risk surgical procedure.

What is the purpose of the show?
‘Second Opinion’ is a mission to educate and alert people about medical problems. Every episode will be based on real life case studies. What went wrong? Who was at fault? What could have been done? The tone of the program will be emotional and informative as well.  The show will try to make complex medical issues easier to understand for the audience.

What else?

A segment of this docudrama takes a second look at the medical case and provides a ‘Second Opinion’ to prevent viewers from becoming future victims of medical negligence.

Why should you seek a ‘Second Opinion’ on ABP News?

It will enlighten the viewer on his right to know about the treatment and what he should ask of the Doctor. The programme will answer what is the importance of a second opinion, when should the viewer seek one and most importantly from whom.

What else is in the offing?
I have an international film called ‘Singularity’ coming up, directed by Roland Joffe and co-starring Bipasha Basu and Josh Hartnett.
Atul Kulkarni sure has health options for the viewers!

MBMC installs system to catch traffic offenders without the need for police personnel on the spot

MBMC installs system to catch traffic offenders without the need for police personnel on the spot

There is reason for habitual traffic offenders to worry, as the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), together with the Traffic Police, has come up with advanced technology that will enable them to track traffic offenders easily. The MBMC has sketched out an elaborate plan to install cameras at strategic locations, especially traffic signals, across the twin-city. Two cameras have already been installed at the S.K. Stone signal in Mira Road on a 3-month trial basis.

The high definition rotational cameras can zoom in and capture the image of the traffic offender and the registration number plates even from a distance of half a kilometer. The cameras can easily watch vehicles moving in any direction, as it can be rotated by the operators in the nearby police control room. Once the offence is recorded on camera, it will be passed on to the control room mobile unit and the traffic officials can book the drivers.

Addresses of the vehicle owners will be verified with the help of a tracking system from the RTO database once the pictures of the vehicles are transmitted to the control room. “The Traffic Department would then a send a notice to the vehicle registration address and register a case. Moreover, the offender will also be sent a ‘link’, showing the video clip of his offence,” informed Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar.
